Cookie Policy
1. Who we are
This policy is issued by Nodus Events Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (Company No. 17208744), with its registered office at 79 Belgrave Road, Aylesbury, England, HP19 9TN (“Nodus”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). We operate the website at thenodus.uk (the “Site”).
Nodus Events Limited is the data controller for the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
2. What this policy covers
This policy explains what cookies and similar technologies (collectively “cookies”) we use on the Site, why we use them, and how you can control them. It applies to all pages on thenodus.uk.
Our use of cookies is governed by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR) and UK GDPR. We do not place non-essential cookies or access non-essential data on your device without your prior, freely given consent.
3. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device when you visit. They allow the site to recognise your browser on subsequent visits, remember your preferences, and collect information about how you use the site.
Similar technologies covered by PECR include local storage, session storage, and pixel tags. All such technologies are referred to as “cookies” throughout this policy. The table in section 4 specifies the exact technology used for each item.
4. Cookies we use
The Site currently uses cookies in two categories: strictly necessary and analytics. We do not use functional, marketing, or advertising cookies.
4.1 Strictly necessary
These are required for the Site to function as requested by you. Under PECR, informed consent is not required for cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a service you have explicitly requested. They cannot be disabled via our consent banner.
| Name | Technology | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
nodus_analytics_consent |
Local storage | Nodus Events Limited | Records whether you have accepted or declined analytics cookies, and when. Without this, the consent banner would reappear on every page load. | Until cleared by you or after 12 months of inactivity |
4.2 Analytics cookies
These help us understand how visitors interact with the Site — which pages are visited, how long visitors stay, and which features are used. This data is processed pseudonymously and is used solely to improve the Site and the Nodus product. We require your consent before setting these.
We use PostHog, an open-source product analytics platform. All data is processed and stored on PostHog’s EU region servers (eu.i.posthog.com). PostHog does not sell your data or use it for advertising. All form-field inputs are masked in session recordings; raw values are never captured. For full details, see the PostHog privacy policy.
| Name | Technology | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
ph_*_posthog |
Cookie & local storage | PostHog (EU) |
Identifies returning visitors using a pseudonymous identifier. Stores feature
flag state and other analytics persistence data. The * represents
the project API key prefix.
|
1 year |
ph_*_posthog_ses |
Session storage | PostHog (EU) | Stores session-level analytics data (e.g. session start time, page sequence). Cleared automatically when the browser tab or window is closed. | Session |
__ph_opt_in_out_* |
Cookie & local storage | PostHog (EU) | Records PostHog opt-in / opt-out status. Set when you decline or later withdraw your consent. Ensures PostHog does not capture data for opted-out users. | 1 year |
4.3 Marketing and advertising cookies
We currently do not use any marketing, retargeting, or advertising cookies. If this changes, we will update this policy, increment the consent version, and request fresh consent from all users before any such cookies are set.
5. Third-party cookies
The only third party that may set cookies on your device via the Site is PostHog, described in section 4.2 above. We do not embed social media widgets, advertising pixels, or any other third-party scripts that set cookies without your consent.
Google Fonts are loaded from Google’s CDN (fonts.googleapis.com). Google may receive your IP address as part of this request; however, no cookies are set by Google Fonts in this configuration. If you wish to avoid this, you can use browser-level controls to block third-party requests.
6. Legal basis
We rely on the following legal bases for setting cookies:
- Strictly necessary cookies — These are set on the basis of legitimate interests (and, where applicable, the “strictly necessary” exemption under PECR Regulation 6(4)) to enable the Site to function and to honour your consent choices.
- Analytics cookies — These are set only on the basis of your freely given, specific, informed, and unambiguous consent under UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a) and PECR Regulation 6(1).
7. How to manage your preferences
7.1 Our consent banner
When you first visit the Site, a consent banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. You can accept or decline using the clearly labelled buttons. Your choice is saved and the banner will not reappear unless you clear your browser data or use the link below.
To change your choice at any time, click “Cookie settings” in the footer at the bottom of any page. This clears your saved preference and shows the banner again so you can make a fresh choice.
7.2 Browser controls
You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Instructions for common browsers:
Blocking strictly necessary cookies (including clearing local storage) may affect the Site’s ability to remember your consent preference.
7.3 PostHog opt-out
If you have accepted analytics cookies and later wish to opt out of PostHog specifically, you can do
so by clicking “Cookie settings” in the footer and selecting “Decline”. This
calls PostHog’s opt_out_capturing() SDK method, which sets the
__ph_opt_in_out_* flag on your device and stops all future data collection.
8. Do Not Track
Some browsers transmit a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal. There is no legally binding or universally agreed standard for how websites must respond to DNT signals. We do not alter the Site’s behaviour in response to DNT signals; our consent banner mechanism provides an equivalent and more granular control.
9. Retention
Your consent preference is stored in your browser’s local storage and is not transmitted to our servers. It persists until you clear your browser data, use the “Cookie settings” link, or until a material change to our cookie use requires us to seek fresh consent.
Analytics data processed by PostHog is retained in accordance with our agreement with PostHog and our Privacy Policy.
10. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy whenever we add or remove cookies, change providers, or when regulatory requirements change. The version number and “last updated” date at the top of this page reflect the current version. Where a change materially affects the purposes for which cookies are used or the cookies set, we will increment the consent version number, which will cause the consent banner to reappear for all users.
