South Asian wedding vendors across the North

Seven cities across Yorkshire and the North West, chosen for their communities and their wedding trade. Pick yours to see local venues, caterers and planning notes.

Nodus starts in seven northern cities: Bradford, Blackburn, Bolton, Manchester, Preston, Huddersfield and Leeds. Each has a large South Asian community and a wedding trade that has grown up around it, from banqueting halls and halal caterers to mehndi artists and dhol players. We are onboarding founding vendors in every one of these cities now. Pick your city for local planning notes, or start planning free today.

Seven cities, one wedding trade

Look at a map of where South Asian families live in the north and the seven cities sit close together, joined by the M62 across the Pennines, the M61 from Manchester to Preston, and the M65 through Blackburn. A caterer in Bolton can cook for a walima in Preston, and a Bradford photographer can cover a mehndi in Leeds. For couples, that means a bigger choice than any single city offers. For vendors, it means work across a whole region.

These figures come from the 2021 Census, published by the Office for National Statistics, for each council area.

Council area (Census 2021)Asian residentsShare of residentsLargest groups
Bradford175,66432.1%Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi
Manchester115,10920.9%Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi
Kirklees (Huddersfield)84,20219.4%Pakistani, Indian
Leeds78,5039.7%Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi
Bolton59,59620.1%Pakistani, Indian
Blackburn with Darwen55,17835.7%Pakistani, Indian
Preston29,81520.2%Indian, Pakistani

For comparison, 9.6% of people in England are Asian. Blackburn with Darwen has the highest share of any council area in the North, and only Pendle has a higher Pakistani share than Bradford. Each city is different underneath: Preston's largest group is Indian heritage, Leeds has the largest Sikh community of the seven, and Bolton, Blackburn and Preston all have sizeable Gujarati-speaking communities. Each city page explains what that means for your wedding.

What each city page covers

  • The local South Asian community, from Census 2021 figures down to ward level
  • Asian wedding venues in the area: the types of room, what to ask about capacity, kitchens, parking and finish times
  • Halal, vegetarian and mixed catering, and how to check a caterer before you pay
  • Where to hold the civil ceremony, and when a religious ceremony counts as a legal marriage
  • The months families plan around, from Ramadan to Chaturmas
  • Local guides from the Nodus Journal, and venue and caterer guides where we have them

How we choose cities

  1. Where families plan weddings

We start with Census data on where South Asian families live, city by city and ward by ward.
  2. Where vendors already work together

Cities that share vendors let a small founding group serve many couples well. The M62, M61 and M65 corridors join all seven.
  3. Where we can meet vendors in person

Nodus is based in Manchester. Every founding vendor speaks to us before going live, and being close enough to visit keeps that honest.
  4. Where couples ask for us

Waitlist sign-ups tell us which cities to add next. If your city is missing, joining the waitlist is the quickest way to change that.

Where Nodus is today

When you book, you pay a deposit to confirm, then the balance before your event, each paid directly to your vendor through Stripe. Every booking is confirmed in writing, and there are no bank transfers to strangers.
