Asian wedding caterers in Bradford: 8 established names and how to choose
Food is what guests talk about on the way home. This guide covers halal wedding caterers in Bradford: styles, certification, cost per head, tastings and the questions to ask before you sign.
Many Bradford families want a halal caterer who can cook Pakistani, Kashmiri or Punjabi food for 300 to 600 guests, often across a mehndi and a walima. Before you compare prices, pin down which body certifies the meat, what the per-head price covers, and who serves the food on the day.
Bradford's caterers cook for the families who live here. In the 2021 Census, 25.5% of residents identified as Pakistani, 2.6% as Indian and 2.3% as Bangladeshi, and 30.5% as Muslim (Nomis, Census 2021). That gives families a wide choice of halal kitchens, and a lot of weddings competing for the same summer weekends.

What's on the menu
Styles of cooking
Pakistani and Kashmiri
Karahi, pilau and biryani, seekh kebabs, lamb on the bone, naan from the tandoor. The Bradford wedding standard.
Punjabi
Richer, buttery dishes and tandoori grills. Vegetarian Punjabi menus suit Sikh families who want no meat at all.
Bangladeshi
Fish curries, bhuna and shatkora dishes, and sweets like mishti. Ask for a caterer who cooks these regularly.
Gujarati
Lighter, often vegetarian, with farsan, dhokla and dal. If you want Gujarati or other Indian wedding catering in Bradford, ask for examples, as fewer caterers here specialise.
Fusion and live stations
Chaat counters, pasta or grill stations, dessert bars and chai. Popular at receptions, and they add cost per head.
HMC and HFA
What HMC and HFA halal certification mean
"Halal" on a menu can mean different things, because independent bodies set their own standards for meat and outlets. Two UK bodies you will often see named on caterers' sites are:
- HMC (Halal Monitoring Committee). Requires hand slaughter by a Muslim slaughterman and does not certify stunned meat or poultry (HMC FAQs). HMC says it monitors restaurants and butchers so they "only sell HMC meat that can be traced back using its unique serialised labels" (HMC).
- HFA (Halal Food Authority). Requires hand slaughter but allows some stunning: "We allow controlled electric stunning with minimal amperage, verified by a veterinary surgeon, for poultry and ovine meat" (HFA).
We don't rank them. Families hold different views. What matters is knowing which one your caterer uses, and whether that matches what your family expects. Ask to see a current certificate, or the name of the butcher and the certifying body if the caterer itself is not certified.

Mehndi, nikkah, walima
Feeding more than one event
Many Bradford families book one caterer for two or three events and ask for a package price. That can save money, but only if each event is quoted separately inside the package, so you can see what the mehndi costs against the walima.
Think about the shape of each event. A mehndi at home might need finger food, chai and a late hot dish for 150. A walima in a banqueting suite needs a full served meal for 500, on time, in one sitting. Ask the caterer how they handle a second sitting if guests arrive late, what happens to food left over, and whether they bring containers so family can take some home.
What the price includes
Tasting, staff and crockery
Tasting. Taste the dishes you will serve. Bring the family member whose opinion counts most.
Staff. Ask how many servers and chefs are coming for your guest count, how long they stay, and who clears tables between sittings.
Crockery and linen. One Bradford caterer's packages include serving ware, crockery, cutlery, glassware, linen and an event manager. Others hire these separately or use disposables.
Hygiene and allergens. Every food business must register with its council (GOV.UK), and you can check its hygiene rating from 0 to 5 at ratings.food.gov.uk. Caterers must also give information on the 14 major allergens (Food Standards Agency).

- What exactly is in the per-head price: staff, crockery, linen, drinks, VAT?
- When is the tasting, and is there a charge?
- How do you keep vegetarian food separate?
- What is your hygiene rating, and how do you handle allergies?
- What is the deposit, when is the balance due, and what if we cancel?

Questions
