Nodus vs Bridebook for South Asian wedding vendors

Bridebook is a UK wedding planning app with a paid supplier directory. Nodus is a booking platform built for South Asian weddings in the north of England. Here is how each one charges you, with sources.

Bridebook charges suppliers a monthly subscription to appear in couples' search. Nodus charges nothing until a couple pays you, then takes commission from each payment you receive. Which suits you depends on how many bookings you take and whether you want a directory listing or a booking and payment flow.

How Bridebook charges suppliers

Bridebook sells SupplierPro plans to suppliers and VenuePro plans to venues. When we checked, supplier categories including photographers, caterers, videographers, hair and beauty, decor hire and entertainment all showed the same two plans1:

  • SupplierPro Basic: £20 a month + VAT, whether billed monthly, quarterly or yearly.
  • SupplierPro Classic: £99 a month + VAT billed monthly, £279 + VAT a quarter, or £1,033.50 + VAT a year. Classic adds priority placement in couples' search.

Venue plans were Essentials at £99, Classic at £399, Expert at £499 and Platinum at £995, each a month + VAT, with a two-month free trial offered on Essentials2.

Without a paid plan, your business has a Limited Profile. Bridebook says it stays live but "can only be accessed by couples searching directly for the business name"3. To be found in general search, you need a paid plan.

Commission

How Nodus charges vendors

Nodus charges nothing to apply, nothing to list and nothing per enquiry. Commission is taken from each payment you receive through Nodus:

  • Founding vendors: 3% for your first 24 months, then 8%. Places are limited.
  • Standard: 8%.

Nodus is built around South Asian weddings, where one family may book you for the mehndi, the nikkah or anand karaj, and the walima or reception. Enquiries and messaging work in the app today, and packages and an availability calendar for your storefront are coming. Couples pay a deposit to confirm, then the balance before the event, each paid directly into your own Stripe account, on the deposit and balance terms you set. Nodus never holds the money.

The fair version

When each one costs less

A subscription is a fixed cost. Commission grows with your bookings.

  • Bridebook can cost less if you take a lot of work through it. For example, the Classic plan billed yearly is £1,033.50 + VAT. At Nodus's standard 8%, you would pay the same amount in commission on about £12,900 of payments through Nodus in a year. Above that, 8% commission costs more.
  • Nodus can cost less if a subscription isn't bringing you enough bookings to cover it, or in a quiet season. With no bookings on Nodus, you pay nothing.

These two products do different jobs, so this is not a like-for-like price. Bridebook sells visibility in its wedding planning app. Nodus runs the booking itself, from enquiry to written confirmation and payment. See commission vs directory subscription for worked examples at different booking values.

A quick note

For couples

Both are free for couples. Bridebook's site says using it "won't cost you a penny"6, and it offers a checklist, budget, guest list with RSVPs and a wedding website6. Nodus is free for couples, forever, and is built for South Asian weddings with several ceremonies. On Nodus couples pay each vendor directly through Stripe, and every booking is confirmed in writing. Most of the planning tools are coming to the app.

Work out your own numbers with the vendor earnings calculator. To see what the commission covers, read how Nodus works for vendors and the vendor FAQ.
