Four well-known mehndi artists who work in Bradford, in alphabetical order, are Ace Star Weddings, Heavenly Henna, Henna By IQ and Leeds Henna. Some are based in the city and some travel in from Manchester or Leeds. We checked each one was trading on 30 September 2026. We have not ranked them, and none of them is on Nodus.

How we chose this list

This is a list of well-known names, not a ranking, put together and checked on 30 September 2026. We did not call it "best", because we could not collect star ratings in a way you could check and repeat. Here is what we did.

  • Works in Bradford. The artist is based in the Bradford district, or says on its own website that it covers Bradford or West Yorkshire.
  • Does bridal mehndi. Each one shows bridal work, not only party henna.
  • Currently trading. Each has a live website, checked on 30 September 2026. Artists whose websites no longer load, who say they are on a break, or who are found only on social media or directories were left out, because we could not confirm they are still trading.
  • Facts from the source. Every detail below comes from the artist's own website or public page. We have not added ratings, prices they do not publish, or anything private.
  • Fair order. The list is alphabetical.

Nobody paid to be listed, and we did not contact the artists. Run a Bradford mehndi business we missed? Apply to join Nodus and tell us about it.

Ace Star Weddings

A Bradford wedding business on Horton Grange Road that lists bridal henna and mehndi night henna among its services.

Heavenly Henna

Nilofer, the artist behind Heavenly Henna, says she has over 20 years' experience and uses only natural ingredients. She is based in Greater Manchester and publishes pages for Bradford areas including Great Horton and Little London. Her site says the stain deepens over 24 to 48 hours.

Henna By IQ

A Manchester-based artist who lists Bradford among the cities it covers. It says it uses natural henna, gives aftercare guidance, and that bookings are usually confirmed up to six months ahead.

Leeds Henna

A Leeds business established in 2017 that covers bridal, corporate and party henna across Leeds and the surrounding area. It says it uses fresh, vegan henna.

How to choose between them

Many brides find their mehndi artist through a cousin, a friend's wedding or Instagram. That works, as long as you check the basics before you pay.

Look at recent bridal work. Ask for photos of full bridal hands, arms and feet from the last twelve months, and for the stain a day or two later, not only the paste. The finished colour is what you will see in your photographs.

Ask about the henna itself. Natural henna stains orange to brown and darkens over a day or two. The British Skin Foundation warns that so-called black henna can contain PPD, which can cause blistering, painful burns and scarring, and that it is illegal on skin in the UK (British Skin Foundation). If you have sensitive skin, ask for a patch test.

Agree the timing. Many artists recommend applying the bride's mehndi one to two days before the wedding, so the colour peaks on the day. Bridal designs can take several hours, so plan the rest of that day around it.

Plan the guests separately. If you want guests to have henna at the mehndi night, ask how many designs an artist can do in an hour, and whether you need a second artist. One published price list from a London artist quotes guest henna from £50 an hour, or £5 a design, at about 12 simple designs an hour. For 60 guests, that is about five artist-hours.

Get it in writing. Ask what the deposit is, when the balance is due, what happens if the artist is ill, and whether travel is included. In 2016 the Competition and Markets Authority said a deposit should be "no more than a small percentage of the total price" (CMA).

Fitting mehndi into a Bradford wedding

Where the mehndi falls in the wedding week varies by family, faith and region. Some families hold a mehndi for each side, which can mean booking the bride's artist for one night and guest henna for another. Others hold it alongside a sangeet, haldi or jaggo. Whatever the programme, book the artist before you fix the running order, not after.

Think about where the bride will sit for several hours. A quiet room at home, with good light and space for a sister or cousin to keep her company, usually works better than a busy hall. If the artist is travelling from Manchester or Leeds, ask whether travel is included and what time they need to leave. And leave a clear gap before any other appointment that day, because wet henna and a hair or makeup trial do not mix.

The mehndi night itself also needs a venue, food, music and a stage. Our mehndi night planning guide covers the running order, and our guide to dhol players in Bradford covers the drums. For venues and caterers, see the Bradford city guide.

Booking mehndi through Nodus

Nodus is one place to find, book and pay wedding vendors, with every booking confirmed in writing. When you book, you pay a deposit to confirm, then the balance before your event, each paid directly to your vendor through Stripe. Nodus is free for couples.

We are inviting Bradford mehndi artists to join now. Until they do, you can start planning in the app, message vendors and keep your quotes together.

Questions

We do not rank artists, because we could not gather ratings in a way anyone could repeat. Four well-known names that work in Bradford are Ace Star Weddings, Heavenly Henna, Henna By IQ and Leeds Henna. Look at each artist's recent bridal work and book a trial.

Around six months is sensible, and earlier for summer weekends and the weeks around Eid. Henna By IQ says its bookings are usually confirmed up to six months ahead.

One to two days before the wedding is common. Natural henna starts orange and deepens over the next 24 to 48 hours, so applying it the night before can mean the colour has not peaked on the day.

No. So-called black henna can contain PPD, a hair dye chemical. The British Skin Foundation warns it can cause blistering, painful burns and scarring, and it is illegal to use on skin in the UK. Natural henna stains orange to brown.

No. They are listed for local knowledge only and are not affiliated with Nodus. Nodus has no approved vendors yet. If you are a mehndi artist in Bradford, you can apply to join as a founding vendor.
